As a Weaponsmith or Armorer, your job is to hit metal and make it into weapons, armor, and equipment. While how effectively you can make certain items depends on your skills, this is mostly divided between armor and weaponry.
Basic Equipment
For starting out, you will need:
- A hammer
- Tongs
These can be found in your closet in your shop. It is also recommended you smith yourself a pick, in case you need to go out and collect your ore; otherwise, you can ask the Merchant or the Steward to ship you some.
Starting Out
You will need to go your Smithy, which on most maps is close by your shop. Add wood fuel to your furnace, and light it with your flint. Now that your furnace is lit, it's time to smelt some ore. You will primarily be working with iron, steel, and gold.
All bars save for steel are straightforward; insert your ore into the lit furnace. The furnace will start to make sounds, and when the ore has been smelted down the furnace will make a hissing sound. When this happens, use your tongs to take the metal bars out of the lit furnace. If you do not have tongs on you, take any ounce of water you like (3oz for example) and splash it on the furnace. With the fire out you can remove your metal bars. The condition of the fuel or bars will not be affected by doing this.
To make steel, you will need to insert 1 coal and 3 iron into an already fuelled furnace - it does not matter if the furnace is lit or not, just be quick in putting it all in.
Once you have the desired quantity of bars, pack it all up and return to your shop.
Basic Smithing
Inside your shop, there are three stations:
- An anvil
- A fire
- A grinder
To start work on crafting something, pick up a bar with your tongs. Warm it in your fire; the sprite will change color. Click on the anvil with your tongs to place the heated bar on the anvil. Then, hit it with your hammer.
You should receive a pop-up of a long list of items you can craft from this bar. Select your desired item, and strike the heated bar with the hammer. If you receive the message that it's too cold, pick up the bar with your tongs and heat it in the fire again.
Some items need other materials, such as another bar, cloth, sticks, or small logs. This is indicated with a small letter (or number, in case of needing more bars) next to the item in the pop-up list. The game will tell you what you need, and when you need to add them to the bar while it’s on the anvil.
When the item is ready, a message will show in your chatbox indicating it is ready. Take the item with your tongs, heat it a final time, then quench it in the water barrel. You now have a finished item!
If your item is bladed, such as a sword or dagger, properly finish it by using it on the grinder. You can also do this with any bladed item that has lost its sharpness.
