As the Innkeep or perhaps the Butler, you will be expected to cook for the good inhabitants of Rockhill to fuel their work-filled daes. You will need the help of a hunter and a soilson to get the most out of your ingredients; or, you could just make pies the whole week.
Equipment
In a kitchen, you will need several items:
- Table: Sounds basic, but foodstuffs need to be sliced on a table. You can't do it on the ground, or in your hand.
- Oven: You can feed ovens with wood and light it with a flint like any other furnace.
- Pan: Ditto as ovens, except you can fry things over a fire.
- Pot: Fill a pot with water (make sure to check it has 33oz in it), set it on a hearth, and wait for it to boil - it will make the sound of bubbling water when it's boiling.
- Cleaver/knife: What you use to cut foodstuff up.
- Rolling pin: Used to roll out dough. Essential for pie-making.
- Spoon: Used to mix milk and make butter with.
- Bucket: You can use this to transfer water to powder, and to mix salt with milk.
You also have bowls, which you can use to hold soup, and trays and platters. Trays will collect all the items on your table for easy serving, and you can place certain dishes on platters to make your foodie experience that much fancier.
Spoiling
When most food is out in the open, it will spoil. Spoiled food, when eaten, will make your character sick. To avoid food spoilage, store your perishables in chests. You should have chests just about everywhere if you're in town, so store your food there and keep it closed.
Some food such as salumoi, raisins, and handpies, do not spoil when they are left out for very long periods of time. Pies also do not spoil until they are cut into slices.
Knowing When It's Done
If, for example, you have made a pie and add it to the oven to bake, it will take a brief amount of time to be finished baking. Don't leave the room while something is cooking. You will know when your food item is done by the chat notification Something smells good!
and a subtle change in the food sprite in the oven.
If you don't take the food out of the oven (or pan) fast enough, your item will turn into a burned mess. This is not edible by anyone! Make sure to watch your cooking food!
